Recommended Accessories for iPhone Photography (2025)

For iPhone photo accessories, I apply the same principle as I do for iPhone photo apps. I use as few as possible because I like to travel light. After all, that was one of the reasons I turned to iPhone photography in the first place. Please mind, that my recommendation for the best iPhone photo accessories is based on my kind of photography, which is travel photography.

In this yearly updated list, you'll find a recommended list of iPhone photography accessories I use myself. The 2025 edition of this list contains a new iPhone photo accessory!

Table of Contents

Why I Recommend the iPhone Photo Accessories in this List

I use my iPhone for travel photography. So this list contains the best iPhone photo accessories for travel photographers who mainly shoot subjects like:

  • Cityscapes during the daytime and the night
  • Long exposure photography to capture e.g. flowing water or shooting cityscapes at night
  • Lost places photography in low light.

Additionally, these iPhone photo accessories help me to travel light. They don’t add much bulk to my carry on luggage but help me to take better photos.

Recommended iPhone Photo Accessories

The best iPhone case

I consider a case for iPhone the most essential iPhone photo accessory. If you've been reading my blog for a while, you know that I'm a huge fan of the Moment iPhone cases, and I’ve been buying it for each new iPhone for almost a decade. You can still read my Moment iPhone case review.

But in 2025 that changed. Not because there’s anything wrong with Moment iPhone case, but my requirements for travel photography changed a bit.

In summer 2024, I bought a Neewer iPhone cage for my trip to Ireland, and I’ve been using it for several trips since then for the following three reasons:

  1. I can attach grips to both sides of the cage to keep it steady even in windy conditions. Neewer sells a grip that comes with a remote shutter release. That’s an additional bonus point. I’ve always wanted that, but I don’t trust all those MagSafe Grips out there
  2. I can attach a video light to the cage. That’s a great helper when I photograph in abandoned places.
  3. I can attach the cage to any tripod. So I don’t need to carry an extra iPhone tripod mount anymore.
  4. Bonus reason: I can attach a wrist-strap to the cage. That was the main reason I bought the Moment iPhone case in the past.

The above photo shows my Neewer iPhone cage configuration for photographing in a lost place. I've attached a wrist strap, a grip with a remote shutter release and a video light.

The best way to add a wrist-strap to your iPhone

If you just want to attach a wrist strap to your iPhone, I got you covered, too. In those rare cased where I don’t use the iPhone cage, I’ve found a convenient way to attach a wrist strap to almost any case by using so-called phone tether tabs.

There’s no specific brand I recommend. I’ve just ordered a bunch of them via Amazon. To learn more about this iPhone photo accessory, please read my article about how to attach a wrist strap to any iPhonecase.

The Best Tripods for iPhone Photography

A tripod for iPhone is essential if you want to take long exposures with iPhone like photographing a firework or photographing flowing water.

Back in my DSLR-era, I had to carry a massive tripod capable of holding a bulky and heavy DSLR camera. But you don't need such a bulky tripod for iPhone Photography. Tripods for iPhones can be notably lighter and, thus, are ideal for travel photography.

I use two tripods for my iPhone Photography.

Joby Gorillapod Magnetic

The first one is the Joby Gorillapod Magnetic. It's a small and lightweight tripod that fits into any bag. It will even fit into the pocket of your jacket.

The Gorillapod has flexible legs so it will securely stand on any surface, and you can even wrap the legs around, e.g., handrails. But the Gorillapod magnetic gives you one more option: You can magnetically attach it to any metal surface. That's just what you can see in the next photo, where I attached my iPhone 11 Pro upside time to a metal window frame at a lost place.

Rollei Compact Traveller No. 1

The second tripod I use for my iPhone photography is the Rollei Compact Traveller No. 1 that I bought as a replacement for my AmazonBasics Travel Tripod in 2019.

Weighing just 2 pounds and folding to 13.3" it's a great tripod for traveling that doesn't add too much bulk to your carry on luggage.

Best Powerbanks for iPhone

Even with the iPhone 16 Pro Max, battery life is still an issue when I'm traveling, shooting and editing my travel photos with iPhone. So I consider powerbanks an essential iPhone photo accessory.

I use two types of banks for my iPhone

Anker MagGo Battery Packs

I originally bought an Anker 521 MagGo battery pack when it was released. It was a MagSafe Powerbank with 5.000 mAh. Since then, I’ve upgraded to the Anker 633 with 10.000 mAh and then to the Anker MagGo 10.000 mAh slim. I use the latter two while traveling to charge my iPhone if necessary on site.

Three Anker MagGo battery packs I use

Left is my newest batery pack: the Anker MagGo slim 10.000 mAh. In the middle is the larger Anker MagGo 633 battery pack with integrated stand (great as an iPhone night stand while traveling) and right is the original Anker 521 MagGo with 5.000 mAh.

You can learn more about my experience with these power banks by reading the Anker MagGo battery pack review.

Anker PowerCore Essential

The second power bank I use is also from Anker. It’s the Anker PowerCore 20.000 mAh Essential. This powerbank is small, thin and provides twice as much power as the MagGo models. I use this powerbank to charge my iPhone while traveling like in the plane, the car or while riding the train. This power bank is not available anymore

Summary

This list contains my recommended iPhone photo accessories that I use and rely on. The Neewer iPhone cage allows me to mount a light and a grip with a remote shutter release. The tripods help me to take long exposure photos and the battery packs keep my iPhone charges while traveling and shooting.

That’s it.
