Hipstamatic vintage shots of a Junkers Ju 52 Airplane

Do you remember or even used Hipstamatic? It was one of the first vintage-style camera apps on iPhone even before Instagram was released.

By using virtual interchangeable lenses and film you could create vintage-style photos that resembled the look of classic cameras from the last century. I took lots of photos with Hipstamatic and experimented with all the different films and lenses you could buy and use. I even maintained a spreadsheet with all the different combinations and which ones created nice looking photos.

During a trip to Munich, I visited the Visitors Park at the Airport Munich. It's an open air airplane museum where they have a few old planes for you to see.

I felt that taking photos in a vintage look would be a perfect fit for those old planes. One of the best known planes there is the Junkers Ju 52, nicknamed Aunt Ju. The plane was used in a transport and passenger carrier role by over 12 airlines between the 1930s and 1950s.

So here are a few photos I took with Hipstamatic and my iPhone 4 that had a whopping 5 megapixels. Please don't ask which combinations of lenses and films I used for those photos. I simply don't remember it anymore.

Moreover, James Brown from Skipology called my attention to a iPhone photo challenge run by the fantastic iPhone photography Website Art of Mob on Instagram. (It seems, the web-site does not exist any more).

The challenge was about planes, trains and automobiles. It occurred to me that I do have some "old" iPhone photos of those planes and a black and white photo of a Ghost Train which was chosen by Art of Mob as a feature. It's an honor to be featured among such great iPhone photo artists.
