A Griffon Vulture looks like its saying "Waiting for you"
This one is the same feathered friend I wrote about in this post
Griffon vultures are impressive birds and I thought over and over if I should put this portrait of a griffon vulture online. Basically, I felt that the shadow in the face of the vulture is disturbing. But on the other hand, I like how the vulture stretches its head towards the camera, like it wants to say, "I'm waiting for you."
And just a few moments later, I had a really close encounter with this spectacular vulture. My learning from that encounter: Never get in the way between a bird of prey and its prey. I also learned that allegedly griffon vultures can't take off from the ground because they're so big and heavy. They have to plunge down from a higher point like a cliff.
I got this photo during a photo workshop near Vienna and there are some other photos of our feathered friends here in the blog.
